This place has been on our doorstep for well over a year, and we only got round to visiting very recently. How we’re kicking ourselves now.
With an hour to kill over lunch one midweek afternoon, we finally gave Piccolo Mondo a chance. There is a string a great deals available in this old fashioned (in a very good way) restaurant.
It was reassuringly busy, and we were shown to a nice table that took us tantalisingly past a massive drinks display cabinet. A return visit when we’ll be able to sample some of that bevvy is definitely on the cards.
For starters, I went for the spicy Italian sausage, served in a fantastic sauce with Borlotti beans. Truly delicious, and it bodes well that a main course of pasta and the very same sausage is available – next time, it shall be mine.
Mrs Gangsta’s trio of mushrooms, mozzarella and onion rings also got the thumbs up as a starter.
I couldn’t resist the chicken parm main, which was as tasty as a motherfucker and served, unusually I thought, with roast potatoes. Thankfully for me, Mrs G chose the spicy rigatoni with that brilliant sausage, so I got to sample some of that too.
As much as this was a superb lunch experience, we can’t wait to return for an evening meal soon.
How often the things right in front of your eyes go unnoticed. Lesson learned. Piccolo Mondo is magic.
